Halloween is ten days out, which means someone is about to ask if your tattoos are part of your costume. After seeing the Ink or Treat entries, I get why.
If you’ve got a spooky piece you keep meaning to send in, tonight’s the night. Submissions close tomorrow.
Right below, one of our Sponsored Artists is using her work for something bigger than a tattoo this month. And further down, Brittney tells us about her tattoo of her and her dog, Loki. It might be the most Halloween thing in this email.
The Wildflower Initiative 🌻
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’d rather show you real people than pink ribbons. This year, that’s Madison Adamson.
You might know her as Madison Bloom. She’s one of our Sponsored Artists and the founder and lead artist at Atelier Bloom Tattoo Co., specializing in fine-line, freehand, floral, and realism work. Right now she’s putting that skill toward a project of her own: The Wildflower Initiative.
Here’s what it is:
-
Steeply discounted mastectomy and scar cover-up tattoos
-
A documentary following 10 women through their cover-up journeys
-
A push to spread the word that scar cover-up tattooing is an option at all
That last part is the heart of it. A lot of people come out of treatment living with scars they never chose, and nobody ever tells them an artist can work with that skin. Madison wants more of them to know.
She’s also launching courses that teach other artists how to tattoo over complex scarring. This isn’t a one-month campaign for her. It’s the work.

How you can help
Follow
@madisonbloom.ink and

A few more submissions since last edition:

A classic monster blowing a bubblegum bubble. We didn’t know we needed this.
Mothman by Jonathan Prieto (@jek215)
Red eyes, lantern glow. Cryptid season is open.
Classic traditional with a twist: pull the face back, and the devil’s underneath.
Fangs, a moon, and the pinkest cheeks we’ve ever seen on a bat.

Ambassador of the Week: Brittney Hansel ⭐
Brittney grew up in a strict, religious household where tattoos were off the table. That didn’t stop her from wanting them.
After two years of deciding on her first one, she walked into one of the few shops St. George, Utah, had at the time, expecting to book something days out. The artist, Johnnie, told her to come back in a few hours.
Johnnie tried to talk her out of the placement, the inside of her ankle, since it was her first. No luck. It didn’t hurt at all, which surprised him. At almost 21, Brittney still waited to tell her mom so she could enjoy it first, “before she crushed my spirit lol.” All these years later, she still loves it.
The piece that means the most to her now is her and her dog, Loki: Brittney as a skeleton, Loki half skeleton, half fur. “No matter what, he will always be a part of me, in life and death. (even though he is going to live forever and ever) It is such a ‘me’ tattoo. It captures my love for all things spooky and my love for my baby.”
Her routine comes down to one thing: hydration. “Lotions, body oils, you name it, I use it. I feel that tattoos look so much healthier, newer, and fresh with hydrated skin!”
Ask what tattoos have given her beyond the art, and the answer is confidence. Brittney was always insecure about her legs and skin, until she started her leg sleeve and arm. Now she’s not afraid to wear shorts or show her legs off. They’ve become her portfolio too: she started tattooing on them, and when people ask to see her work in person, she can show them how far she’s come. “Each tattoo healed something in me that I would’ve never gotten from anyone or anything else.”
