Melissa’s tattoo journey began back in the late ’90s, when she spent her teenage years hanging around local shops. At 18, she took the leap and got her first tattoo at the very shop she’d been drawn to all along, a start that set the tone for her future as both an artist and collector.
 
Now tattooing out of Inked Under Ground, Melissa sees herself as a storyteller. One piece she holds close is a full sleeve dedicated to her family and upbringing, featuring the Portland Head Light, a place that’s been part of her story from childhood into adulthood.
 
Outside the studio, Melissa works as a firefighter and paramedic, a side of her most people wouldn’t guess. To keep her ink looking sharp, she relies on Mad Rabbit balm daily, which often sparks conversations and gives her a chance to share the stories behind her tattoos.
