Thirty-five. That's how old Michael was before he got his first tattoo, which, for someone this deep into black and grey, Skinny Puppy album art, and Japanese pieces now, is almost hard to believe.
His actual first was a favor: a small skull wearing headphones, done by a friend practicing his sixth ever tattoo (that friend now tattoos out of Florida). The one he counts as his real start is the geisha holding a koi he brought to Kings Avenue in NY, where Frankie Carraccioli took the idea and made it his own. "The feeling of absolute shock and relief of what finally getting a half sleeve that was as professional as you can get, it still shocked me." Frankie kept going, and it became a full sleeve.
His right arm sleeve carries the most weight for him these days. He got it mid-breakup, and learning more about the Japanese art behind it along the way, it became proof he'd gotten through something genuinely hard.
